PRIF is working to support the Pacific aviation sector recovery from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is providing assistance to the Pacific Aviation Safety Office (PASO) to prepare an assessment of the impact of COVID-19 and recommendations for the consideration of the officials at the Regional Aviation Ministers’ Meeting (RAMM) 2021. In this regard, PRIF is updating its 2020 Post-COVID-19 Pacific Short-term Aviation Strategy Study.

PRIF is also working to develop a business case for the Association of South Pacific Airlines (ASPA) to identify opportunities for Pacific airlines to collaborate and achieve economies in operation to better weather the financial impacts of the pandemic.   The support will include a network and fleet options study to identify common aircraft types and subsequent training needs. It will also explore the need and options for establishing a regional project implementation or technical hub/body and will consider trialling regional and harmonized approaches to aviation project implementation and maintenance.
